I had to replace an IC on a stargate IO board and this worked great for my chip. The first chip I tried blew in a matter of 5 mins. It allowed me to track down the problem and thank goodness I added this socket otherwise I would have had to desolder the replacement Ic chip again and the first one was such a pain.
